On June 7, 2023, the JART Gallery will present an innovative exhibition program — "SCRIPTORIUM OF VISUAL IMPRESSIONS", created in collaboration with Sergey Khachaturov.

The program will include a series of five exhibition projects and a multi-genre parallel program at various venues in Moscow, united by the themes of wandering, lost in the folds of time and history. The synthesis of fine and theatrical art in the project will reveal to you the versatility of the issues raised. The curator and the gallery have been successfully practicing an interdisciplinary approach to creating exhibitions for several years: not only artists, but also actors, theaters and institutional venues are invited to participate in the project.

The first exhibition of the project — "Creases of wandering" is built around the idea of wanderings of artists from different times, eras, genres and countries. The gallery shows the works of the old masters of the Renaissance and a wide range of Russian artists: from the classics to the new names of contemporary art.

In world culture, the themes subjects of roaming and wandering are correlated with the study of the historical psychology of people who are in the extreme, borderline status of an outcast, a refugee, an adventurer. A pilgrimage, as opposed to travel, is often a challenge of oneself at the limit of capabilities. In such an ordeal, culture and art turn out to be invaluable helpers. To reflect on the matter of pilgrimage, wanderers and their distress in the space of life and art, the spectator will be uniting with artists of different times and countries, from Rembrandt and Dürer to street artists, artists and masters of the intermedia genre. Wanderers often disappear into the folds of the great human History and various little stories connected with them. The folds are both the envelope in which the message addressed to the wanderer or written by him is enclosed, and the secret corners of the world in which the hero hides or is hidden.

Rembrandt van Rijn
"Ecce homo. Christ in front of the crowd
Etching, Print XX century from original board

Rembrandt's engraving "Christ Before the People" depicts a scene from the Gospel when Jesus was presented before Pontius Pilate and a crowd of people. On the engraving you can see how Jesus is standing in front of the crowd, and Pilate is sitting on the throne, addressing the people. People in the background are depicted in shadows, which creates an effect of depth. The engraving is made in the cutter technique on copper and has many fine lines that create a detailed pattern. It is one of Rembrandt's most famous works and often used in as an example of his mastery of engraving.
