At the performance on the 9th and 10th of May one was able to be privy to the first stage of the master's working process, during which the creation of abstract canvases began with expressive action painting. Later, but now hidden from the eyes of the world, Melamid completed the work, finally adding to the canvases hooligan inscriptions in paint that is visible only in ultraviolet light.

The cycle "Russian Version of Abstract Expressionism" was presented at the first art show in Russia in Gostiny Dvor – DA!Moscow – from the 16th to the 19th of May 2019. Alexander Melamid flew to Russia with his son Dan, a professional film-maker, known in the USA as "Dan the Man". For many a year has Dan been filming all the significant events in his father's life, in order to later create a documentary film about the artist. This time, he filmed the opening of the art show in Gostiny Dvor and the accompanying events.
